Nan Bridge
It’s such a beautiful bridge, isn’t it? It is known as the “First Bridge of Chengdu” and it is also the Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
This bridge was originally built and named Lingyun Bridge in the Yuan Dynasty. After suffering several times of damage due to war and flood, in 1958, the wooden piers of the timber pile bridge were replaced by stone piers for a stone arch bridge, and a new pavilion and memorial archways were constructed on top as well. Afterwards, the bridge was renamed as the Nanqiao Bridge. After suffering another disaster during the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, it was renovated by skilled craftsmen and reopened on April 1, 2009. People were overjoyed to witness its reopening, with spirits as high as during the celebration of the lunar new year.
