“Zimei” refers to sisters in Chinese. Just as its name implies, the Zimei Bridge is actually twin covered bridges.

The two covered bridges jointly span the river below. They look identical with the same shape, length, height and width. A rock outcropping in the middle of the river serves as a shared natural bridge pier for both of the bridges, hence creating two spans. During the “May 12th” earthquake in 2008, more than 50 houses in the nearby village collapsed, but the Zimei Bridge, without a single nail in the joints, stood unharmed and became a life-saving bridge for the villagers. Going across this important bridge, relief goods and supplies were quickly handed out to the victims and saved many lives in time.
