South China Karst
Being the third largest country in the world, China has an abundant variety of topography and landforms. Karst topography is one of them. What is karst topography? Well, it is a three-dimensional landscape shaped by the dissolution of a soluble layer or layers of bedrock, usually carbonate rock such as limestone or dolomite. Usually, these landscapes display distinctive surface features and underground drainages.
According to the location of the terrain, karst can be divided into different types as the climate and temperature are different. South China Karst is one of the world’s most spectacular examples of humid tropical to subtropical karst landscapes. Covering an area about 550,000 square kilometers, the site spreads over the provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan and Chongqing.
Here, you could see some of the most significant types of karst landforms, such as tower, pinnacle and cone formations, along with other spectacular characteristics like natural bridges, gorges and large cave systems. The stone forests of Shilin, the cone and tower karsts of Libo, and the giant dolines of Wulong, are all must-not-be-missed sceneries! Come and visit! You’ll definitely be amazed!
