Chinese Golden Bell Award for Music
(October 25, 2023)
Established in 2001, the Chinese Golden Bell Award for Music is held every two years. It is a comprehensive professional award in the Chinese music industry approved by Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and co-sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Chinese Musicians’ Association. It is a national art award alongside the Meihua Award in Drama, the Golden Eagle Award in television and the Golden Rooster Award in film.
It was first held in Langfang City, Hebei province. Since the sixth session in 2007, China Music Golden Bell Awards has made great adjustments in the award setting, competition methods, submission methods and other aspects, adding the Theory review Award, adding the National chorus competition and the National Pop Music Competition to the performance award, thus making the award setting of the Golden Bell Awards more reasonable and the selection system more perfect. Since the eighth session in 2011, with the approval of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan offices, contestants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have been able to participate in the Golden Bell Awards.
The 9th China Golden Bell Award for Music included all four sub-categories: Work Award, Performance Award, Theoretical Criticism Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award. The Work Award comprises the Instrumental Works Award (for small instrumental ensembles) and the Vocal Works Award (for ensemble singing). The Performance Award encompasses seven major competitions: Erhu Competition, Guzheng Competition, Folk Music Ensemble Competition, Piano Competition, Piano and String Chamber Music Competition, Vocal Singing Competition (Bel Canto Group, Ethnic Group), and Pop Music Contest (Male Solo, Female Solo, Ensemble Singing). The Theoretical Criticism Award evaluates submissions based on four categories: Chinese Music History, Ethnomusicology, Western Music History, and Music Aesthetics.
On October 25, 2023, the 14th China Golden Bell Music Awards ceremony and closing concert, organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Chinese Musicians Association, and hosted by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, were grandly held in Chengdu. The ceremony honored musicians who received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the winners of this year's Golden Bell Award.
