In commodity circulation, Confucius stood for the abolition of tax posts at intervals along routes, while advocating free trade; and opposed cheating in business dealings, such as trafficking in fake, counterfeit and inferior goods. He was averse to Pan Chi, one of his disciples, learning grain and vegetable cultivation, but not to Zi Gong, another disciple, doing business. Instead, he praised him for his accurate prediction of market prices.
