Chengbo Bridge: A Timeless Bridge of History & Tradition in Jiangxi
Nestled in the serene Chenfang River of Hufang Town, Qianshan County, Jiangxi Province, stands the Chengbo Bridge - a provincial cultural relic and one of the oldest bridges still standing in Jiangxi.
Named after the monk Chengbo who raised funds for its construction in the fourth year of Tang Emperor Zhenguan (630 AD), this bridge is a testament to ancient wisdom and craftsmanship. Destroyed by floods in the fifth year of Qing Emperor Tongzhi (1866 AD), it was rebuilt through donations from local gentry and villagers.
Today, the people living by the bridge retain traditional ways of life and handicrafts passed down from their ancestors. They lead a simple yet content life, rising with the sun and retiring with its set. They don't aspire for riches or flashy possessions; instead, they cherish the virtues of thrift, self-sufficiency, and a healthy, peaceful life.
Passersby can’t help but marvel at the harmony and prosperity that prevails here. This bridge is not just a structure of stone and mortar; it‘s a symbol of a way of life, a connection to the past, and a reminder of the values that have stood the test of time.
