A total of 12 competition venues, 3 training venues and 28 non-competition venues will be used during the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. They are spread across three competition zones in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.
The Beijing zone will host speed skating, short track speed skating, fgure skating, ice hockey, curling, snowboard big air, freeski big air, para ice hockey and wheelchair curling competitions. In Yanqing zone, athletes will compete in Alpine skiing, luge, bobsleigh, skeleton and para Alpine skiing. The Zhangjiakou zone will host ski jumping, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, biathlon, snowboard, freestyle skiing (excluding freeski big air), para cross-country skiing, para snowboard and para biathlon competitions.
Technology has become an indispensable feature of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. A wide range of cutting-edge technologies have been deployed when building or remodeling venues, upgrading sporting facilities and equipment, organising different competitions and arranging global broadcast of the events. The National Sliding Centre was built around a millimetre hyperboloid track made with fine finish spraying techniques and shotcrete, the first time such techniques were independently designed and used in China.
Meanwhile, an integrated management system for intelligent buildings has now been installed across the venues to monitor the functions of stadiums and help with renovation of the National Stadium, the National Speed Skating Oval, Beijing Olympic/Paralympic Village and Yanqing Olympic/Paralympic Village.
All venues will be served by buses and vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cell engines made and road tested in China, which is another first in the history of the Olympic Games.
