High-speed Railway Connects Beijing 2022 Game Zones
Beijing 2022 Games will be held in three zones—Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou—linked by the Beijing–Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway. The railway began service on 30 December 2019. Running run up to 350 kilometres per hour (217 mph) on the line, it cuts the travel time from Beijing to Yanqing from 2 hours to 20 minutes, and from Beijing to Zhangjiakou from 4 hours to 50 minutes. A stunning increase in speed, isn’t it? The convenience it brings for athletes, journalists and spectators is more than just speed.
Trains on the line put on full display the Chinese culture, technological innovations and elements related to the Winter Games. Their interiors were designed with the needs of the Games in mind. Journalists can watch live broadcasts on a smart display screen in front of their seats. The mobile hotspots (Wi-Fi) onboard will also make it easier for them to do reporting when travelling. Some cars offer barrier-free area, wheelchair fixtures, emergency call (SOS) buttons and adjustable seats and tables. Special spaces are also available for anti-doping test and storage of winter sports equipment.
