Since the Tang Dynasty, Daming Lake has been famous all over the world. During the Northern Song Dynasty, lake water flowed into the Xiaoqinghe River. People built pavilions, platforms, embankments, and bridges along the lake. The area gradually became a landscape. In the Ming Dynasty, due to the reconstruction of the city walls, the Daming Lake was initially formed to its current form. In 1958, Jinan officially claimed the area as the Daming Lake Park, which became a famous scenic spot in the country afterwards.
The temperament of the city has been long formed over time
In 1986, Jinan regarded lotus as the city flower. As the unique symbol of the city, Lotus not only deeply rooted in the hearts of citizens with its bright colors and faint fragrance, but also represent the temperament and quality of the city with its noble and elegant character.
At present, the 36th Lotus Art Festival is being held in Daming Lake. The person who is in charge of the Daming Lake Scenic Area introduced that this year's Lotus Art Festival uses lotus as a medium, integrating lotus with art, folk customs and culture of the city to build a platform of lotus appreciation and summer vacation for citizens and tourists to play, sightsee and purchase.

In 2012, the Baiyun Lake in Zhangqiu District of Jinan was approved to carry out the pilot construction of a national wetland park. Relying on lotuses and the lake ecosystem, Zhangqiu is currently working on the integrated development of culture and tourism. Not long ago, with the theme of lotus, the Ecological and Cultural Tourism Festival of the Baiyun Lake opened. A series of activities were held there, including exhibitions of agricultural product, food tasting, calligraphy, painting and photography, and cultural performances to attract numerous tourists all over the world.
