Xining FIRST International Film Festival

The FIRST International Film Festival, also widely known as the FIRST Youth Film Festival, is a prestigious and highly anticipated event in the global film industry, with a particular focus on showcasing and nurturing the talents of young filmmakers. Since its inception in 2006, FIRST has grown into a significant platform that brings together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts from around the world.
Originating in Beijing as the University Student Film Festival, FIRST was officially relocated to Xining, Qinghai Province, China, in 2011, where it has since flourished. The festival's mission is to discover, promote, and support young filmmakers and their works, fostering a vibrant and diverse film ecosystem that nurtures emerging talent and contributes to the overall growth of the film industry. As a platform for film art and industry exchange, FIRST aims to present a diverse spectrum of young Chinese cinema, contributing to the shaping of contemporary film history.
FIRST boasts a comprehensive awards system that recognizes excellence in various filmmaking categories, such as Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor/Actress, Best Screenplay, etc. These awards serve to honor and promote the talents of young filmmakers, encouraging further creativity and innovation in the film industry.
FIRST has played a pivotal role in nurturing and launching the careers of numerous young filmmakers who have gone on to make significant contributions to the film industry. By providing a platform for film art and industry exchange, FIRST promotes the overall growth and prosperity of the film industry.
The 18th FIRST International Film Festival was held in Xining, Qinghai Province from July 20 to July 28, 2024. During the film exhibition, the jury evaluated the final 13 feature dramas, 7 documentary features, 12 live-action shorts, and 7 animated shorts, and select 10 main unit commendation honors, including Best Feature Drama, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Artistic Exploration, and Best Screenwriter. 39 shortlisted films were shown in cinemas and open-air cinemas in Xining.
