Wuzhen Theatre Festival

Wuzhen Theatre Festival, jointly initiated by Chen Xianghong, Huang Lei, Lai Shengchuan and Meng Jinghui, and sponsored by Wuzhen Culture Co., Ltd., was founded in 2013 and is held in the historic water town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, China.
The festival comprises various units such as specially invited plays, youth competitions, ancient town carnivals, town dialogues (forums, summits, workshops, readings, exhibitions), etc. With Wuzhen, a town with a history of 1,300 years, as the stage, it invites global drama lovers and dreamers of life to come to the beautiful Wuzhen to experience a carnival of the soul.
Wuzhen Theatre Festival is comprised of specially invited plays, Youth Theatre Competition, Town Talks, Ancient Town Carnival, and so on. The specially invited plays include a wide range of domestic and foreign plays each year; the Youth Theatre Competition is the most desirable and fiercely competitive arena for young theatre practitioners; Town Talks is an important dialogue channel between creators and audiences of the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, forming several sections such as theatre workshops, theatre forums, exhibitions, and so on; Ancient Town Carnival is a ubiquitous and dazzling street performance art form at the Wuzhen Theatre Festival every year, consisting of artists from all over the world who love street performances, with random, interesting, creative, and unrestrained performances.
The performance venues of Wuzhen Theatre Festival are diversified and professional. The magnificent Wuzhen Grand Theatre leads more than ten indoor theaters of various sizes and functions, as well as several outdoor theaters, forming a unique group of performance spaces. In addition, street alleys, outdoor plazas, and other places are filled with wonderful performances. Wuzhen during the festival is like a paradise for theater.
The 11th Wuzhen Theatre Festival, themed "Unwavering" (implying "a torch of spirit and a steadfast belief"), will be held from October 17 to October 27, 2024.
