The Hong Kong International Film Festival
(From March 28th to April 8th, 2024)
Founded in 1977, the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is usually held from mid-March to early April each year. It is one of the most prestigious and exciting film events in Asia, attracting film enthusiasts, industry professionals and celebrities from all over the world. The festival takes place in Hong Kong and offers a platform for filmmakers to showcase their talents and for audiences to discover new and exciting stories from all corners of the world.
As an important film exchange platform in Asia, in addition to showcasing the diverse production of Asian and global films, the festival also hosts symposiums, lectures by famous directors, exhibitions, parties, and other activities, which mainly include the premieres of famous directors' works, Hong Kong film retrospectives, film fan carnivals, and various special film unit screenings. Each year, the festival collects over 330 works from more than 50 countries and screens them in 12 major cultural venues in Hong Kong, attracting more than 600,000 visitors.
The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) does not have a grand prize and is a non-competitive screening event. Its competition sections are mainly aimed at newcomers and their new works.
To commend outstanding filmmakers and their works, HKIFF has added three film awards (Young Cinema Competition (Chinese Language) & Young Cinema Competition (World), Documentary Competition and Short Film Competition). The results are decided by jury teams composed of prestigious film professionals, film critics, directors, and actors in the industry, and would be announced at the "Awards Night" of HKIFF.
The 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival was held from March 28 to April 8, 2024. During the festival, over 190 films from 62 countries and regions were screened.
