Taipei Film Festival

Since its inception in 1998, the Taipei Film Festival is a large-scale film festival hosted by Taiwan, organized by the Taipei City Government and undertaken by the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs. Initially planned by the Taiwan Film Culture Association under the leadership of director Hou Hsiao-hsien, the festival has been held annually since 1998, except for a hiatus in 2001.

It has become an important cultural event for Taiwan's film and entertainment industry as well as for Taiwanese filmmakers. In recent years, the Taipei Film Festival has focused on the theme of the city, hosting various exhibitions and performances in addition to film screenings. The festival consists of two sections. One is the international new talent competitionthat aims to provide a platform for up-and-coming filmmakers from around the world to showcase their talents and engage in creative exchanges. This competition unit was first introduced in 2005, establishing the pillars of "City," "Chinese," and "New Talent" as integral features of the festival. Another is the Taipei film awards competition. It is a significant aspect of the Taipei Film Festival, an annual event dedicated to showcasing and promoting Taiwanese and international cinema. This competition specifically aims to recognize and honor outstanding achievements in filmmaking.
