Longhua Temple is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. Extant historical records trace the temple back to 242, when Sun Quan, the ruler of the Wu (State) during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280), built it for his mother. =
The magnificent building complex consists of several halls and houses numerous rare Buddhist scriptures. It also houses the Longhua Pagoda, the only Buddhist pagoda in Shanghai. The solemn and tranquil temple attracts many pilgrims who come to worship the Buddha and pray for blessings.
