CICC Hosts Workshop on Co-creation and Sharing of Cultural Communication Practice
On January 10, the Center for International Cultural Communication, China International Communications Group (CICC) successfully hosted the Workshop on Co-creation and Sharing of Cultural Communication Practice in Beijing. This workshop marked the second edition of the event, following its inaugural session in 2024. The goal of the workshop was to provide a platform for exchange and collaboration in cultural communication, with a focus on co-creating content and sharing resources for the global dissemination of Chinese culture. Over 50 representatives from academia, business, media and cultural content creation participated, discussing the new challenges and opportunities in international communication and exploring ways to empower each other.
Zhang Jinting, Director General of the CICG Center for International Cultural Communication, expressed his heartfelt thanks to all attendees for their active participation. He stressed the importance of pooling resources from diverse sectors to form synergy, aiming to broaden the international reach of Chinese culture. Looking to the future, Zhang affirmed the Center's commitment to principles of openness, inclusiveness and innovation, working together with all stakeholders to promote Chinese culture abroad and effectively tell China’s stories.
The workshop featured several roundtable discussions, including one on the theme "Local Voices from a Global Perspective: Practices and Challenges in Promoting Local Cultures on the Global Stage". Guests from various organizations, including the Publicity Department of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, the Great Wall International Communication Center of the Great Wall New Media Group (GWICC), sdchina.com, Jinan International Communication Center, Henan International Communication Center, and CDRTV International Communication Center delved into topics such as the exploration of local cultural symbols, media transformation and innovative communication models. They shared their successes and challenges under this theme.
Another roundtable, "The Power of Stories: Personal Content Going Global and Cultural Transmission", explored how individuals are shaping the global narrative of Chinese culture. Sun Run, a Guzheng teacher for international students at School of Arts, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), Wang Xianchong, a scholar of etiquette and music, Lu Qinghuan, a miniature model restoration artist, Han Qiuyue, a young painter, and Jin Sihong, a travel photography blogger focused on cultural heritage, shared their personal insights and practices in cultural communication. They discussed how personal storytelling, combined with new media platforms, can effectively convey Chinese culture to a global audience.
The workshop also included a roundtable on "Cross-boundary Voices: Brand and Group Overseas Communication Experiences and Challenges", which focused on the international communication efforts of brands and organizations. Speakers included Song Mingxia, Director of People’s Daily Digital Communication Research Center, Wang Lepeng, Associate Professor at School of Humanities, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Li Yuan, Director of International Communication Section, Enterprise Culture Department, China Railway Group Limited, Dang Feihua, the fifth-generation heir of Wang's Shadow Puppetry, and Tai Chi World Champion Chai Yunlong. They shared their valuable experiences in cultural communication and brand building on the global stage.
Professor Lei Weizhen, Executive Vice President of the International Communication Committee, the Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication (ICC-CAHJC) and Associate Dean of the Public Diplomacy Institute at Renmin University of China, was a special guest at the workshop. He provided insightful academic commentary on the discussions and offered suggestions for further development in the field of international cultural communication.
The workshop also highlighted successful case studies from the past year, with CDRTV International Communication Center and CHN Energy sharing their collaborative achievements with the CICC. Their experience provided valuable lessons in multi-party cooperation for cultural communication. BLCU Five-Color-String Zheng Ensemble of International Students delivered an impressive performance. In addition, the workshop recognized outstanding collaborators with awards for New Partners in International Communication of Chinese Culture and Outstanding Partners in International Communication of Chinese Culture.
