In ancient China, pillows could be put into various shapes.
This white-glazed pillow produced at Dingyao kiln during the Song Dynasty is one such piece made of porcelain in the shape of a child.
Among Northern Song art, it is very common to see toddler themes and images of children used as decoration.
The child is lying on his stomach with his head slightly lifted, looking up, and his two feet are raised. The image is innocent and cute.
This type of ornamentation appears on scroll paintings and, vessels. There are also pieces that simply use the image of a child as their overall shape.
