Everyone loves beautiful things. We would like to decorate it even though it is only a drum.

This painted drum with two phoenixes from the Warring States was unearthed in Jiangling County, Hubei Province.

It is an extremely precious remnant of the Warring States period in the Chinese history. It is an ancient percussion instrument used to perform music.

However, this drum’s special feature is its frame, which is composed of two standing phoenixes lifting their heads.

The phoenixes’ necks are long and curved, and their tails connect, supporting the drum above them.

The top edge of the drum is connected to the back of each phoenix head, making for an extremely clever design.
