After Confucius' death, when the rulers of all these dynasties recommended Confucius and his thinking, they also gave preferential treatment to his descendants, who have become the oldest noble family in the world. They also built government offices, habitually called “Confucian Mansions” for his descendants. The Confucian mansions of today occupy 120,000 square meters in area, with 560 buildings constructed since the 16th century.
In 1944, UNSECO proclaimed the “Forest of Confucius” “Confucian Temple" and “Confucian Mansions” as sites of world cultural heritage, for their important cultural value in history.
