Did you know that Confucius was once frustrated by the death of a kylin?

In his old age, Confucius encountered quite a few unfavorable incidents, one of them was in the spring of 481 BC, when hunters in the State of Lu killed a queer beast. Confucius made a special trip to have a look at it. “lt's a kylin!" he exclaimed. The kylin was believed to be a kind of auspicious divine animal that appears when there was good government and stable society. However, at that time society was in disorder and the kylin had been killed as soon as it had come into sight. Confucius became completely frustrated. He even stopped working on The Spring and Autumn Annals, the historical book he was compiling.
