At the beginning of the Later Period of Pr osperity of Tibetan Buddhism, numerous Buddhists, defying hardships and dangers, traveled to India and Nepal to learn Buddhism. They brought back large numbers of Buddhist scriptures in Sanskrit and classics in other disciplines and organized scholars to translate them. This kind of activity (going on a pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures and translating them) lasted until the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. This mural describes how Buddhists traveled a long distance for scriptures in the Later Period of Prosperity of Tibetan Buddhism. In the center of this mural stands a pilgrim, and on his sides are travelling merchants.
