The Perfect World Campus Art Design Award 2022 concluded in Beijing in late April.

The competition was hosted by the Dongcheng culture and tourism bureau and the Beijing-based gaming and movie conglomerate Perfect World. It was aimed to drive the development of cultural industries with innovation, and promote the international exchange of excellent traditional Chinese culture.

"The Heart of Beijing" is a cultural and tourism brand in Dongcheng and explores the capital's ancient culture, says Hu Guowei, a senior official with the Dongcheng bureau.

The event attempted to use technology and creative means to inspire and guide students to understand and interpret traditional culture in a more daring manner, and then explore the deep connotations and sincere humanistic sentiments in Beijing and Chinese culture.

More than 4,100 students from over 600 domestic and overseas universities registered to participate in the competition. A total of 221 awards were presented at the closing ceremony.

The competition introduced the latest AI painting technology and enabled students from outside traditional art and design majors to express their artistic flair, such as those from the fields of law, finance, and medicine.

"Whether in the field of art or in the gaming industry, AI is still in its early stages of exploration. Many events, including this competition, are part of our exploration of the development and application scenarios of AI technology," says Lu Xiaoyin, co-CEO and president of Perfect World Co Ltd.

"The extent to which AI technology can develop will have a profound impact on the world," Lu adds.

The campus competition has been staged for three times, attracting more than 10,000 students from nearly 500 universities worldwide.
