Chengdu photographer reproduces ancient Chinese mythical characters
"The Classic of Mountains and Seas" is a Chinese book which records a large number of myths, legends, animals and folklore.
Chen Xin, a photographer born after 1995 in Chengdu, has recreated the ancient mythical animals in the book with her photography works.
She started shooting this series three years ago and has finished about 20 to 30 characters.
"I want to integrate the concept of modernization into the creation of ancient gods and animals, and reproduce the traditional Chinese culture in a different form," said Chen.
Once Chen finds a mythical animal in the book that interests her, she will look up various sources and come up with a draft in her mind.
After drawing it, she would look for materials. Usually it would take her nearly a month to make the final clothes.
During her three years of shooting, Chen has been to many places, trying her best to match the image of the character and restore the scene.
Chen thinks the restoration of "the Classic of Mountains and Seas" is just the beginning.
In the future, she will take more photos containing Chinese elements, so that people could know more about the traditional Chinese culture and be proud of it.
