Dayu's flood control
Dayu's surname Si, called Wenming, is a great hero who controlled the flood in ancient Chinese legends, so people call him Dayu.
It is said that in ancient China, when the leader Yao was in his old age, a terrible flood occurred and the land was covered with ocean. Yao saw the people being swallowed up by the flood day by day, and was very anxious, so he sent Gun to control the flood. However, after Gun had ruled for 9 years in a row, there were still floods everywhere in China, and people's lives were very miserable.
When Shun became the monarch, he executed Gun, who had no success in controlling the water, and ordered Gun's son Yu to control the water. Yu bravely took on this important task.
Yu knew that the task of controlling the flood was very difficult. He thought that his father had worked hard for more than ten years to control the flood, but because he only knew how to fill the earth to block the river and build dams, not only did he fail to control the flood, but instead caused even greater disasters. Now I'm going to treat the water. If I can't treat it well, it's not a pity for me to die. But this is related to the lives of how many people in the world! Dayu seriously summed up the lessons of his father's failure, and felt that it was not enough to control the water by blocking it alone. Therefore, he boldly conceived a set of water control plans that were completely opposite to his father's, that is, to dredge the river and divert the water away.
In this way, Dayu led everyone to start a new water control project. In order to find out the terrain, find out the river, and divert the water, he decided to travel all over the world.
At that time, most of China was still deserted. Relying on perseverance and perseverance, Yu did not know how many barren mountains and ridges, how many rapids and rapids, and after figuring out the topography of the mountains and rivers, he worked out a plan for water control one by one, and then organized people to build it. He often disregarded the hard work of his long journey, braved the wind and rain, set an example, and led everyone to dredge the river.
In order to control the flood, Yu did not get married when he was 30 years old. Once, when Yu was controlling the flood, he passed by Tushan. There was a girl named Nujiao in Tushan, who was very beautiful and virtuous. Nujiao deeply loves this great hero who is praised by thousands of people. She heard that Yu had arrived at Tushan and hurried to find Yu.
Yu and Nvjiao fell in love with each other at first sight, but Yu's task of water control was too urgent. After only 4 days of their marriage, Yu said goodbye to his newly married wife and went to work on water control. When he was parting, Yu said apologetically to his wife: "When I cure the flood, let's reunite again."
Yu's water control project is very grand. He led everyone to encounter mountains and open mountains, encounter rivers and sparse rivers, and traveled throughout today's Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Shaanxi and other places. Today, the world-famous Sanmenxia is said to be the three water gates formed by splitting a mountain blocking the river into three gaps when Dayu was controlling the flood. Yu named them Ghost Gate, Water Gate and Human Gate. Near Sanmenxia, there are also seven stone wells and two horseshoe nests, which are also the relics left by Yu when he controlled the flood. At the junction of Shanxi and Shaanxi, Longmen was originally two mountains, which straddled both sides of the Yellow River. It was shaped like a door. According to legend, it was also excavated by Yu led people.
In order to cure the flood, Yu went over mountains and mountains all year round, slept in the wind, and slept in the open air. Thick calluses were formed on his hands and feet. He was so tired that his waist was bent, his back was hunched, and it was very difficult to even walk, but he always insisted on controlling the flood. In the thirteen years of Yu Zhishui, he passed by the door of his house three times, but he didn't even bother to go in and have a look. Yu traveled all over the land of Kyushu, went through all kinds of difficulties and dangers, opened ditches and repaired canals, and finally defeated the flood disaster, allowing the people to rebuild their homes.
Yu was established by Shun as the heir to the throne because of his meritorious deeds in controlling the waters; for this reason, people remember him and miss him from generation to generation.
