Wuxing Bridge
The Wuxing Bridge, situated in Shuangmen Village, Shuanghuai Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing, built during the reign of Emperor Daoguang (1822) of the Qing Dynasty. This light grey covered bridge may look very ordinary, but it is actually very special since it is the only bridge in China that is build over the boundary between two cities!
The Wuxing Bridge was built during the reign of Emperor Daoguang (1822) of the Qing Dynasty. This five-span covered bridge with a stone arch is 60 meters long, 6 meters wide and 5 meters high. It is the only covered bridge in China that connects two cities ---- the south end of the bride is in Chongqing administrative region while the north end stands in Sichuan Province.
The boundary river between the two areas flows right under the bridge. There used to be 6 families living near the bridge, 3 from Sichuan and 3 from Chongqing. They dined together on the first and fifteenth days of every lunar month on the bridge. The main dishes were rice, tofu pudding and chili sauce, which smelled extremely delicious.
