Hey the World: the Secret of Green Winter Olympics

“The wind from Zhangbei county lights up Beijing”. Li Zhendong, UHV engineer of State Grid Cooperation of China, shared his story of the power supply during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Since Zhangjiakou City in northwestern Hebei Province owns abundant wind and solar resources, the State Grid of China planned to transmit the power to Beijing. In this process, even in the face of brand-new technologies and an extremely difficult situation of tight schedule and heavy workload, the Li and all his teammates at the State Grid never came up with a single thought of relaxing and bravely took on the heavy responsibility. Finally, in February 2018, China’s homegrown and world-leading new technology of flexible DC transmission grid ---- the Zhangbei Flexible DC Power Grid Project was successfully constructed. Chinese energy talents not only devoted their efforts in supporting the Winter Olympics and Paralympics but also contributed to human’s sustainable development in building an unprecedented “green sample”.
