Legendary Folk Heroine Hua Mulan

Have you ever seen the Disney animated film Mulan? In fact, 花木兰 (Huā Mùlán) was a heroine in the Southern and Northern Dynasties in ancient China. Her story was recorded in a folk song in northern China during that time.

Mulan was a brave girl. She liked to practice riding horses since childhood. One day, the emperor needed recruitment. Her father’s name was also on the roster. Her father was too old and sick to be competent, so Mulan decided to dress up as a man to join the army instead of her father.
