Temple and Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion in Qufu
If you are familiar with Chinese culture or language, you must have heard of Confucius and Confucianism. The world cultural heritage we will introduce today is closely related with this great figure in Chinese history.
Located in Qufu, Shandong province, these three Confucian sites were built in 478 BC to commemorate Confucius, the great philosopher, politician and educator of China. The Temple of Confucius is the largest and most renowned temple of Confucius in East Asia. Its surrounding complex are impressive temples with yellow roof-tiles (otherwise reserved for the emperor) and red-painted walls, surrounded by dark-green pine trees. The Cemetery of Confucius is a large space with cypresses and pine trees, where buried Confucius himself and some of his disciples and descendants. The Kong Family Mansion is a historical residence of the direct descendants of Confucius, which maintained the artistic and historic layout of traditional Chinese mansion.
