Zhoukoudian, the cradle of modern man

Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to numerous archaeological findings, including one of the first specimens of homo Erectus, also known as “Peking Man”. A large number of fossils like skulls, teeth and leg bones have been unearthed here, some from Peking Man and some from a species that is very close to modern humans ---- the Upper-Cave Man. With these fossils displayed in front of your eyes, you can clearly see how the ancient Chinese evolved from early homo Erectus to late homo Sapiens.

Other archaeological discoveries also show that our ancient ancestors gradually learned to make stone tools and use fire. Zhoukoudian site has set up some models to restore the scene of ancient human life. Come and experience what it is like to travel back to the Paleolithic Age!!
