Cool Down by Drinking a Cup of Pear Soup
Xiaodiao pear soup emerged as a traditional drink of Beijing. It is made of pears, tremella and loquat stewed together. Eventually, a restaurant chain named after the soup was established. In addition to pear soup, it also offers signature dishes such as cheese fish.
The flagship location of Xiaodiao Pear Soup is tucked deep in the traditional flavor of Beijing’s hutong residences. In a courtyard flanked by old trees stands a building with a glass roof. The restaurant offers only limited seats, so it isn’t noisy even when full.
Pear soup is a must-try for every table. It takes seven to eight hours to cook such a bottle of pear soup. The thick soup is placed in a copper bottle and warmed with a small candle burner, emitting the authentic fragrance of loquats and pears.
