In a time of war and chaos, many of China's precious classics suffered damage or were lost. Recognizing this, Confucius took the initiative to classify these ancient texts and even compiled his own textbooks when there was a shortage of educational resources.
During his travels to various states, Confucius continued his efforts in sorting out the ancient classics. Upon returning to the State of Lu, he dedicated himself to this comprehensive and systematic work. His annotations and organization extended to significant works such as The Book of Songs, The Book of Rites, The Book of Music, The Book of Changes, and The Spring and Autumn Annals.
