The Moller Villa, a Swedish shipping magnate's masterpiece
The Moller Villa, was built by Eric Moller, a Swedish shipping magnate, in 1936.The distinctive design includes brown-tiled Gothic and Tudor gables, spires, and steeples. In 2001, the Hengshan Group began to renovate to the villa, preserving its original architectural style.
Moller Villa was reportedly built by wealthy Jewish merchant Eric Moller as a gift to his beloved daughter based on a dream she once had as a young girl. Construction of the 5,000-square-meter private villa lasted for 10 years and finished in 1936. In 1989, Moller Villa was listed as a modern-time building complex under municipal-level protection in Shanghai. Now it has been converted into a restaurant. The entire villa consists of six structures with Northern European architectural style. The unique Norwegian-style spires and steep garbled
roofs create a fairytale ambience. Inside the buildings are exquisite reliefs and wooden ornaments. Bathing in the sun, the tall stained-glass windows glimmer with luster.
