International intangible cultural heritage festival opens in Chengdu

Performances by 47 troupes from home and abroad kicked off the 8th International Festival of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province on Oct 12.

The five-day event has brought together more than 6,000 inheritors and performers from 47 countries and regions.

It is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Sichuan government and the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO.

The event aims to showcase China's active efforts in implementing the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and promote outstanding traditional Chinese culture.

Five exhibitions, including those featuring intangible cultural heritages in modern life, international craftsmanship, are staged during the festival.
