Traditional Chinese elements were the stars of the show at the release event of the China Fibers Fashion Trends Report for 2023 to 2024 held in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The report, compiled by the China Chemical Fibers Association, Donghua University and the China Cotton Textile Association, has seen a successful run of 11 editions to date. Annually, it announces the most cutting-edge fiber varieties in technology, environmental sustainability, functionality, innovation and other areas. It has emerged as a guiding benchmark in the industry, connecting both upstream and downstream sectors to lead industry trends.

This year's event saw over 40 fiber varieties being showcased, which included a fashion show of clothes designed by Zhang Turan, echoing the theme of "harmonious co-existence".

Zhang, the youngest Chinese designer ever invited to showcase his works at New York Fashion Week, wowed the audience with his fashion creations. His designs uniquely blend traditional Chinese handicrafts, such as Suzhou embroidery and Yunjin brocade, with daring and sophisticated cutting-edge designs, showing his individuality and flair.

In keeping with the event's eco-friendly theme, the runway's floor was made of green fiber, creating a sustainable and immersive fashion show experience.

The event highlighted the importance of incorporating traditional elements into modern fashion while also emphasizing the need for environmental sustainability.
