Special costume: kao

Hey guys, welcome back! After appreciating mang and pi, today I want to introduce another  beautiful and special costume of Peking Opera: kao  (a warrior’s suit of armor).

Kao is an armored garment worn by male and female generals of all ages. It is a dazzling costume that is immediately recognizable. In Peking Opera, lots of celebrities wear kao when they go to war, like Zhao Yun, a famous young general from the Kingdom of Shu; Guan Yu, also a famous Shu general, wearing soft armor instead of rigid armor; Mu Guiying, a young heroine wearing soft armor, in contrast to the hard armor.
